Aims
This course aims to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the operational, and safety requirements together with the necessary operational skills applicable to Loading Shovel. This course is applicable to novices or experienced operators requiring scheme re-assessment.
Teaching Methods
Classroom (Powerpoint, Handouts, Videos,Written Question Paper)
Practical (Demonstrations, Hands on, Assessment of Competence)
Training includes
- Basic construction, names of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
- Use of the operator’s handbook, etc
- Pre-use, start, running checks and close-down procedure
- Preparing the excavator for site and road travel
- Travelling the excavator over differing types of terrain, including rough, undulating ground and up and down substantial inclines
- Manoeuvring, progressing to confined spaces in a forward and reverse direction
- Positioning and setting the machine to excavate
- Precautions and actions for underground and overhead services and other hazards
- Soil and material characteristics
- Excavating below ground lever
- Loading vehicles and hoppers
- Backfilling, grading, spreading and levelling different types of terrain
- How to remove and re-attach different buckets
- Placing the excavator in an out-of-service condition
- Loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
- Trained operator achievement test
